Tribune Columnist Eric Zorn suggests removal of derisive political reform slang

CHICAGO—A Chicago Tribune columnist is even discouraging use of the sometimes-patronizing term “goo-goo” to describe “those who expect and demand better of our elected officials.”

Cynthia Canary, director of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform, was quoted in the column with a strong reaction against the term. “I find it insulting and dismissive. Call us `advocates’ or `lobbyists.’ At least that would recognize that government reform is a legitimate policy arena.”
